Below we have listed 18 of the most well-known figures with links to South Devon.
1) Kate Bush
The British singer-songwriter, best known for a string of hits in the 70’s and 80’s, resides in East Portlemouth, near Kingsbridge.
The 61-year old reportedly brought the property for £2.5million back in 2005, in a bid to live a quiet life away from obsessive fans.
In 2014, DevonLive reports on Bush’s mansion after Devon County Council warned that the area in which her home is located, was in danger of toppling into the sea!

The singer, who is the oldest of 5 siblings attended the preparatory Exeter cathedral school, where he formed his first band “The Rocking Honkies”.
Back in 2010, Chris’s Whitestone childhood family home was put on the market, for a whopping £1.35million!
3) Mary Berry
Former ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge, Marry Berry has been holidaying in South Devon for several years.
The famous baker owned a cottage in the seaside town of Salcombe, which she sold a couple of years ago.
Mary has been spotted many times during her visits to Salcombe.
The celebrities former cottage is now available to rent as a holiday let.
4) Jennie Bond
Former BBC Royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, resides in her Devon home near to Kingsbridge, South Devon.
The former TV presenter, appeared on ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here!’, back in 2004.
5) Michael Caines
Celebrity chef Michael Caines was born in Exeter.
The chef who received an MBE for his services in 2006, is the chef/patron and Lympstone Manor in Exmouth.
The holder of two Michelin stars for 18 consecutive years, the chef was also awarded a Michelin star for his catering skills at Lympstone Manor, Exmouth, six months after opening.
6) Rod Stewart
Singer-songwriter, Rod Stewart, along with wife Penny Lancaster have been spotted several times of the years holidaying in the seaside town of Salcombe.
The ‘Maggie-May’ singer was pictured by Penny, sunning himself on his room’s balcony at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel and Spa.
It is uncertain as to whether the celebrity couple own a property within the town.
7) Rosie Huntington-Whitley
Plymouth born, Rosie Huntington-Whitely is an English model, actress, designer and businesswoman.
Rosie grew up on a farm in Tavistock where she attended Tavistock college.
Best known for her supporting roles in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Mad Max: Fury road, Rosie was signed for Victoria Secret in early 2006.
The model went on to land her first solo British Vogue cover, walking runways for Burberry, Givenchy, Michael Kors and Louis Vuitton.
8) Tom Daley
Olympic diver, Tom Daley was born and raised in Plymouth.
The diver attended Eggbuckland Community College and during the early days of his career, Tom would train at the Life centre, Plymouth.
In 2008, Tom became the youngest ever European gold medallist.
The Plymouth born diver has won a combined total of ten World, Commonwealth and European Championship gold medals.
9) Jennifer Saunders
The ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ star ditched the hustle and bustle of city life and relocated to a beautiful farmhouse in Chagford.
Although much of her time has been spent in the city, the actress recognised the beauty possessed by Devon and relocated here with her family in 2002.
10) Miranda Hart
Miranda Hart, arguably one of the most well-known female comedians of the century was born in Torquay.
Miranda’s ‘big break’ came when she starred in her own self-driven, semi-autobiographical BBC sitcom ‘Miranda.’
11) Georgia Toffolo
Despite the name of the reality TV show she stars in, Georgia Toffolo (Toff) is actually from Torquay.
Toff, who was crowned Queen of the Jungle in ‘I’m a Celebrity get me out of here!’, attended Torquay Grammar school for girls.
Toff along with PM Boris Johnsons dad, Stanley took part in Channel 4’s ‘Celebrity Hunted’ last year.
12) Ben Howard
The ‘Only Love’ singer-songwriter was raised in South Devon, near Totnes.
Ben Howard attended King Edward VI Community College.
The singer has previously been spotted surfing on Bantham beach!
13) Matt Bellamy
Talented musician, Matt Bellamy hails from Teignmouth.
Matt, is the lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist of the multi-award winning rock band Muse.
The band has won several prestigious awards, on top of having sold 20 million albums worldwide!
14) Lily Cole
The redhead supermodel, entrepreneur and business owner was born in Torquay.
Lily has worked with well-known fashion brands including; Alexandra McQueen, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Jean Paul Galutier.
15) Lauren Pope
Despite starring on reality TV show, ‘The Only Way is Essex’, Lauren Pope is actually from Torquay.
The model, actress and DJ has recently announced she is pregnant!
16) Josh Widdicombe
Comedian Josh Widdicombe, was raised in Haytor Vale and attended South Dartmoor Community College.
Josh has appeared on several popular shows including; The Last Leg, Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week.
17) J.K Rowling
Although, the author is not strictly from South Devon, the Harry Potter author studied at the University of Exeter.
Rowling explored the city during her time as a student, even incorporating some of its charm into her work.
Namely, Gandy Street has been likened to that of ‘Diagon Alley’!
18) Charlie Watts
Although it may not be ‘South Devon’, it is worth mentioning that the drummer from world-famous band ‘The Rolling Stones’, Charlie Watts, lives in the village of Dolton in West Devon.
The world famous drummer along with his wife Shirley Ann Shepard, sold their East Sussex home in the late sixties and moved to the secluded Devon village.
If Devon is good enough for a Rolling Stone, then it is certainly good enough for us!
