Our beautiful county of Essex is filled with plenty of A-list stars because it’s obviously the place to be, right?

As well as these celebrities, we’ve also got a tonne of amazing restaurants that serve some of the best food around.

That means that, with the UK lockdown still ongoing, we’re missing some of these places more than ever.

But where did all these celebs go when they craved delicious food? The chances are they’re likely to revisit once we get back to something resembling normality.

Do they prefer five star restaurants or do they want just cheap and easy fast food?

We’ve managed to compile a list of the best restaurants that the stars love in Essex and we honestly can’t wait until we can go out and try them again for ourseves.

Here are the 15 restaurants that celebrities love in Essex:

The Magic Mushroom – Barleylands Road, Billericay

The Magic Mushroom has been open since 1996 and earned the reputation of being one of the ‘best restaurants in Billericay‘.

They offer a contemporary menu with a traditional influence as well as ingredients that have been locally sourced and are organic where possible.

There are four different menus available as well as a Christmas one and they are packed with meals that sound amazing.

You can have the pork belly, chargrilled beef, beef bourguignon and more that will easily put you in the best ‘food coma’ of your life.

Celebrities are always coming here and loving their meals.

Sky Sports Soccer Saturday reporter and football columnist Bianca Westwood visited this year and it looks like she had the best time.

Dusk – Ongar Road, Brentwood

Dusk is an incredibly popular restaurant in Brentwood that can actually seat up to 300 people.

They offer Mediterranean and Asian food that according to their website will “give you a gastronomical experience like no other in Essex”.

It’s split into three different rooms: the restaurant, lounge and rose room.

The rose room offers intimate private dining experiences for guests of 20 to 120 and it overlooks the beautiful Bentley golf course. It’s the perfect room to hold an event for you and your friends while enjoying the exceptional food.

Former TOWIE star and personal trainer Mike Hassini was visited here with his mum. DJ Limelight, a BBC Radio 1/1Xtra radio presenter is often here enjoying all that’s on offer.

Alec’s Restaurant – Navestockside, Brentwood

This Brentwood restaurant is incredibly popular with the local TOWIE cast. They’re always visiting and we can’t blame them. It looks amazing!

Here you can enjoy a grilled angus sirloin steak in front of a roaring fire or jumbo tiger prawns and scallops overlooking the beautiful garden.

Everything is made to perfection and is always eloquently presented.

From TOWIE, Ferne McCann, Mike Hassini, Danielle Armstrong, Megan McKenna and her sister Milly, Harry Derbidge and Amy Childs have all visiting the restaurant before.

Other stars like Love Islanders Nathan Massey and Cara Delahoyde, ITV stars Samantha Faiers and Courtney Green and others have all been spotted dining here.

Felix Warley – Headley Common, Warley

Having opened up after the success of its first restaurant in Billericay, Felix Warley has proved to be very successful.

The modern and huge building has a warm atmosphere and is beautifully decorated. There’s also small cosy spots located around the place for a more intimate experience.

The menu itself sounds spectacular with the choices of whole lobster, fillet beef medallions, surf and turf and far more.

CEO of Match Room Boxing Frank Smith, singer Pixie Lott, model Oliver Cheshire have all enjoyed what the restaurant has to offer.

The Punch Bowl – High Easter, Chelmsford

This restaurant is a stunning listed Tudor building and has picturesque views looking into its gardens.

The owners use locally sourced produce and freshly make everything so you just know that it’s all going to taste incredible.

The likes of singers and presenters Marvin and Rochelle Humes were here last summer and Love Islander Frankie Foster has also visited.

Pavillion – 20-22 Middleborough, Colchester

This Colchester restaurant offers a unique dining experience and its menu has been inspired around the geographic and culinary fusions of the western shores of north and South America, the Polynesian Islands and eastern Asia and Australia.

All the food is incredibly colourful and beautifully arranged meaning you’ll just want to devour it as soon as possible.

Celebrities like singer and actor Jack Quickenden, professional tennis player Eden Silva and reality star Milly Mckenna have all come down here for an enjoyable meal.

Dante’s – The King’s Head Centre, Maldon

Dante’s is located in a sixteenth century listed former pub on Maldon High Street and brings diners delicious fresh fish and seafood.

The restaurant is incredibly relaxed and a nice, informal place to just hang out with your friends and family while eating great food.

The menu is well thought out and the food is elegant and cooked just right.

Diners were surprised to see Love Islander and model Zara Mcdermott dining there one evening last year with her friends.

Fred & Doug’s – 148 High Street, Epping

Fred and Doug’s is a small little café in Epping that offers great food with loads of options for vegetarians and vegans.

They do perfectly sized dishes that are just enough to fill you up and keep you going through the day.

Everything tastes beautiful and fresh and the staff are lovely.

Presenter and broadcaster Jeff Brazier is a big fan of Fred & Doug’s and has even said its his favourite cafe.

The Lion Inn – Main Road, Boreham

Located in Boreham, is the beautiful Lion Inn.

The menu is filled with pub classics along with the specials board which gives diners more of a variety.

The food is great pub grub that has been “given a fresh twist”, according to reviews.

YouTuber Emily Norris and her husband came here for a delightful date night and Courtney Smith from Absolutely Ascot has also been seen here before.

The Cricketers – Wicken Road, Clavering

 

This pub north Essex pub actually has its own celebrity link.

Chef Jamie Oliver actually grew up in this pub and his parents still run it today.

His parents, Trevor and Sally are pioneers of pub food and their chef, Justin Greig has worked there for 19 years.

The team have won multiple awards and very occasionally, lucky diners might just get a glance of Jamie coming to visit.

Flitch of Bacon – The Street, Little Dunmow

 

Flitch of Bacon was transformed in 2018 after Tim Allen and his team took over the grade I listed sixteenth century inn.

Tim serves exceptional seasonal, British cuisine that has a modern edge to it.

The restaurant has a Mitchelin star and has been named as one of the top 100 eateries in the UK by Restaurant Magazine.

It’s also been voted in 2019’s Top 50 Gastropubs.

A-listers like Wayne Lineker have enjoyed the delicious food here.

The Galvin Green Man – Howe Street, Great Waltham

 

This restaurant is set in the beautiful countryside and the building dates back to 1341.

Inspiration for the food comes from Essex itself and the restaurant has won plenty of awards.

They’ve recently received a Catey for Pub and Bar of the year and they were also included in the Good Food Guide 2020.

The Blue Strawberry Bistro – The Street, Hatfield Peverel

Located in the lovely village of Hatfield Peverel is this equally lovely restaurant.

The Blue Strawberry Bistro is one of Essex’s finest and has built up this impressive reputation over 20 years.

You’ll never get bored of the food here because it has three different menus for different nights of the week.

There’s also the mouth watering Sunday Lunch menu which we’re dying to try.

Love Islander and Essex girl, Olivia Bowen Buckland comes here to get her fix of fine food.

Smith’s Brasserie – Fyfield Road, Chipping Ongar, Ongar

 

This restaurant’s moto is “famous for fish” and they aren’t wrong.

The menu highlights from here definitely include the jumbo tiger prawns pan fried (in the shell) with garlic chilli butter and crisp basil – doesn’t that just sound incredible?

Another highlight is the roast barbary duck breast with honey, ginger and soy glaze with Pak Choi.

Being a famous restaurant, means famous people like to come here including Emily Norris, TOWIE’s Mario Falcone and Gemma Collins and Absolutely Ascot stars Courtney Smith and Leah Fletcher.

The Company Shed – 129 Coast Road, West Mersea, Colchester

 

This seafood restaurant has been praised by renowned chefs such as Rick Stein and Jay Rayner so it’s another one where you just know you’re going to have an amazing experience.

The menu is filled with locally caught fish which is freshly cooked produce and oysters.

They even offer a take-away service for you to enjoy fresh seafood at home.

Actress and author Cecilia Forss, fashion columnist Raven Smith, actor Bill Milner, singer Jess Mills, have all come here to get themselves some fish.
